I’ve been pretty hesitant about getting my hands on cropped wide-leg jeans — they’re cropped, and wide-legged… for goodness sake. I’ve just felt like they’re SOOOO 70s, and my afro gives me “walking into 2018 from the 70s” enough as it is. I digress, I went for it anyway. A theme for me going into 2018. Granted, going for it is something that I’ve been putting into practice for some years now, but it’s different when you’re much more confident and going for it. It’s easier to do. The fear that often comes with taking the plunge is embraced and seen as an asset as opposed to being a hindrance. The reward for taking that risk is something you appreciate more because you’re more likely to get face-to-face with self-doubt and slap it away. Imposter syndrome who?
Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle with the aforementioned pitfalls of going for it, but this time around, I just don’t care as much. It’s usually not worth it at the end of the day. You’re usually not at risk to lose much when you take a risk unless you’re the President or are taking a clearly harmful risk. Risks I’m talking about fall along the lines of negotiating a salary you deserve, taking on that art project you’ve been putting off for too long now, or in my case, getting back to blogging.
This year just feels good already, right? Is it just me? I can’t wait to really dive in further and just get things done.
Back to the look, I totally embraced the 70s vibe, as you can see. It just can’t be helped when I wear my afro. You guys are probably going to see cropped wide-leg jeans (and pants) on me a lot moving forward. I’ve been heavily inspired by people I’ve seen style them here in NYC. You can get a little dressy, like in today’s look, or dress them down like I’ll do in future looks. If you’re on the shorter end, I’d suggest going for the mid to high-waisted cropped wide-leg jeans (or pants) and pairing them with either an open toe sandal or pump like the mules I’m wearing.
What say you? Are you feeling this comeback style? Want me to style them in a particular way? Let’s chat via the comments below.
